Purchasing
From single volumes to entire libraries.
We are always interested in purchasing books and paper ephemera. We are happy to travel to your home to view and purchase books, and do so on a daily basis across the north. If you have a list of the books you wish to sell please either post it to us at the shop or e-mail it to us via to the link below. Alternatively we are happy to receive books in reasonable quantities at the shop during nornal opening hours.
In most instances, by selling to a reputable bookseller, you will achieve a higher price for your books than you may at auction. Many auction houses now charge as much as 50% of the gross value of the books offered for sale, when the sellers and buyers commission is taken into consideration.
Valuations
Where appropriate we are happy to offer free informal book valuations in the shop or over the telephone.
We also provide a full valuation service for insurance and probate. This service is at an hourly rate; please enquire for further details.
Recent clients we have undertaken valuations for have included: Newcastle University (The Robinson Library), Newcastle City Library and the North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers.
Seven Stories, the National Centre for the Children`s Book, recently sought our help in appraising and valuing an important archive of material relating to Enid Blyton. We were instrumental in securing 13 annotated Enid Blyton typescripts which will form the basis of a major exhibition to be held at Seven Stories in 2012.
