FIRST EDITION. Octavo. xi, [1], 226 pp, [4] advertisements. Book Condition: Very Good. Original purple cloth with gilt titles to spine and blindstamped foliate border surrounding publishers' monogrammed cartouche to boards. Yellow endpapers with arabesque design to background and advertisement panels. Spine and top edge rear board lightly sunned; lower corners bruised. A little sporadic fingermarking and foxing and pencilled ownership inscription dated 1852 to title page, otherwise contents very clean and crisp. A fictionalised account "founded upon actual facts" and anonymously published, full of plot and counter-plot and headings such as "The Mysterious Relic" and "Fraud and Forgery". Scarce.
